Before hitting “send application,” please consider the following. While a Service Dog can provide life-changing benefits, they aren’t always the right step for everyone with a disability or autism. Service Dogs are a significant commitment and require 24/7 care, even when they are off duty. Once a Service dog is paired with you and placed in your home, you are responsible for the well-being of the dog for the remainder of their life. A Service Dog will influence your day-to-day life and interactions with others, as well as they will affect your physical and mental well-being. 

 

Reflect carefully over the questions below and really consider how having a Service Dog be a part of your everyday life will look. No question has a direct “yes” or “no” answer; they are to help you understand the work, effort, and impact a Service Dog will bring into your life.

 

After giving each question some thought and doing your own research, if you are not sure or questioning the fit of a Service Dog in your life, it is probably for the best if you wait on applying until you are able to answer all questions confidently and securely.
